The March sisters join the Scene One Theatre stage for the premiere of “Little Women: The Broadway Musical.”
Based on the novel by Louis May Alcott, the musical will feature all the same beloved characters as it follows middle sister Jo March and her desire to make her way in the world.
The cast of ten, directed by Tracy Wegman, have been rehearsing since the end of June.
“One of the reasons that I did that is because the music is rather difficult so we wanted to make sure we hit the music really hard and we had a good understanding of the music so that we could present the show in the way that it needed to be presented,” Wegman said.
The cast includes Lainey Hood as Jo, Jacques Du Plessis as Professor Bhaer, India Lengyel as Amy, Hannah Dolan as Meg, Claire Huntley as Beth, Amy Pringer as Marmee, Don Otto as Mr. Laurence, Alex Lewis as Laurie, Karin Schatte as Aunt March and Chris Kennison as Mr. Brooke.
“Little Women: The Broadway Musical” opens today and also runs Friday, Sunday and Nov. 14-16. The show begins at 7:30 p.m., except Sundays when it starts at 2 p.m.
“The music is just wonderful. The songs are just — I’ve never heard anything like them before. They are a challenge to the actors but our cast does such a wonderful job of conveying the message in the songs. I’m very proud of them and the work that they have done,” Wegman said.
Tickets are $20 and can be reserved on the Scene One Theatre website at sceneonetheatre.com.
